I’ve been an avid collector of music for most of my life, amassing a collection of over 2000 CDs and 3000 LPs.

For the last 10 years I have been involved in the Portland vintage scooter scene as well. I own two Lambrettas, a Vespa, and a Fuji Rabbit. For two years I was president of Twist N Play Scooter Club, and besides putting on the annual Spring Scoot rally, I organized the efforts to raise over $12000 towards the medical needs of one of our club members.

Meinl.Com Shop Relaunch:

Julius Meinl is an Austrian coffee company with 2 Chicago locations. In 2012 they are celebrating their 150th anniversary. For the relaunch of their online store, we chose Magento because of its flexibility and user community. Custom functionality hasn’t been easy to create, but in the end it’s working perfectly.

Port Orford Ocean Resource Team:

The Port Orford Ocean Resource Teamlost their web developer in the middle of a redesign of their site, and I was able to step in to help. Starting almost from scratch, I arranged hosting, set up WordPress for them, and customized their look. I trained them on how to use the back end of WordPress, and they are happily updating their own content.

Spring Scoot Mobile App:

Spring Scoot is the NorthWest’s largest annual vintage scooter rally. With annual attendance of over 300 people and 100 vintage scooters over 3 days, getting everyone to the right place at the right time can be a challenge. This year I created a mobile guide for attendees, which allowed users to get the event schedule and appropriate maps, as well as provide a social element by integrating Instragram tags in a photo gallery. The mobile “app” can be viewed at http://www.springscoot.com/mobile and has been tested on iPhone and Android devices.

Pickstarter:

Pickstarter is a curated blog highlighting notable Kickstarter projects. This is a relatively new project, but I feel it fills a gap. While some blogs cover the occasional Kickstarter project, and Kickstarter has “Staff Picks”, there is no other independent site watching for good projects emerging from the site.

Font Fight!:

Development is still in progress on Font Fight, a site in which two headlining fonts are pitted against each other, and users will choose which font looks best. Over time, the best fonts should emerge from the statistics, and the site will list the most popular fonts. This site is being developed in HTML5/CSS3 using Twitter Bootstrap as a base. The backend is using PHP to connect to the Google Webfonts Developer API, which pulls down the current full list of available Google Webfonts daily, and then chooses two fonts at random to face off. In the future, “Tag Team” matches will not only compare headline fonts, but headline and body font combinations.
